South Beach Rules and Regulations

​The use of the South Beach Association guard house, facilities and property is restricted to South Beach Association members and their guests.  All members and guests (exclusive of children age 12 and under) must display an SBA badge at all times during hours of operation in order to access the beach and to utilize the South Beach facilities.  Access to the beach is provided through the adjacent public walkway to the south of the property.  Lost  badges will not be replaced.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  Members may not use the facilities or property outside of the designated hours.

Beach Rules

The Head Guard has the complete confidence of the SBA Board of Directors and is responsible for the daily operation of the beach and for the enforcement of all beach rules and regulations. For the safety and protection of our members, all instructions from the Lifeguards and our other employees must be strictly obeyed.

Be advised that ocean swimming is hazardous and presents many risks, even for experienced swimmers.  Extreme caution must be exercised when in, or near, the water.    BE ADVISED THAT OCEAN SWIMMING IS HAZARDOUS AND PRESENTS MANY RISKS, EVEN FOR EXPERIENCED SWIMMERS.  USE OF THE BEACH OR OCEAN IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

  • Badges must be worn at all times.

  • NO SWIMMING IS PERMITTED WHEN EITHER A SINGLE RED FLAG OR DOUBLE RED FLAGS ARE BEING FLOWN.  DOUBLE RED FLAGS MEAN THAT THE WATER CONDITIONS ARE EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS.

  • Members are required to comply with all Board of Health regulations and the laws, rules and regulations of the Borough of Mantoloking. In particular, no food or beverages are permitted on the beach at any time; although water in non-disposable containers is permitted.  Furthermore, walking on, or other use of, the dunes is strictly prohibited.

  • Surfing and fishing are not permitted at any time within or near the bathing area.

  • Dogs or other animals are not permitted on the beach during bathing hours.

  • Disrobing on the premises is strictly forbidden.

  • Ball playing and other games must be undertaken in a safe manner and away from other members and the dunes.  Similarly, board riding and other swimming activities must be conducted under control so as not to endanger others.

  • Members are requested to immediately notify SBA personnel of any unsafe condition.

  • The Association is not responsible for any personal property brought onto, or stored on the premises.

Additional Regulations

​Use of the Guard House, the chair storage area and boxes, the elevated deck, the dune deck and other South Beach Association facilities is restricted to members and their guests and may be accessed only during designated hours. The use of the Life Guard Office is for the exclusive use of the lifeguards.

  • All persons using the facilities must act in a safe and orderly manner and must maintain the cleanliness of the facilities.

  • Members are entitled to store not more than 2 chairs per family in the chair storage area.  Boogie boards and surfboards may be stoed only in appropriately designated areas.  All personal items must be marked for identification, and are stored solely at the members sole risk and responsibility. 

  • The bathroom is to remain locked at all times and may be accessed only by permission, after obtaining the key from SBA personnel .  Usage of the bathroom is conditioned on the expectation that it will be left in a sanitary condition.  Adults are responsible for the behavior of their children.  Young children must be accompanied by an adult.

  • The refrigerator may be used by members solely to store food for consumption on that day.  All food items must be removed by the end of each day.

  • The rinsing stations are for rinsing off sand and salt water only, and are not a play area.  PLEASE CONSERVE WATER USAGE.

  • Persons using the elevated deck must assure that trash does not blow off the deck, that trash is placed into the receptacles, and that the area is left neat and clean.

  • The walkways, steps, floors, and deck will always be a slipping and tripping hazard due to moisture, sand and uneven surfaces.  No “horseplay,” running, or other rough physical activity will be tolerated. 

  • No fires or open flames are permitted at any time on the premises.

  • Bikes should be locked and stored in a designated bike parking area and located so that they do not block passage.

  • Please report any broken items or unsafe conditions to SBA personnel.

  • Discourteous behavior, or any threatening or abusive language or other action directed at or towards an SBA employee or any other person will not be tolerated.  All instructions from the lifeguards and our other employees must be strictly obeyed.​

THE VIOLATION OF ANY OF THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS BY ANY MEMBER OR ANY RELATIVE OR GUEST OF SUCH MEMBER MAY RESULT IN THE REVOCATION BY THE ASSOCIATION OF SUCH MEMBER'S MEMBERSHIP AND REQUIRE THE RETURN OF ALL BADGES ISSUED THEREUNDER, WITHOUT COMPENSATION TO THE MEMBER.
